2022 Mid-Year Market Update
Returning talent hail from Europe, US, and Hong Kong
The demand for risk and governance professionals remains very high and competitive. For the first half of 2022, the market has witnessed companies increasing their budgets to attract top talent and retain business-critical hires.
However, we’re still dealing with the ramifications of Covid-19, and companies are careful. Speculation surrounding struggling economies are also not helping prop up confidence in the market, but this does mean the need to fill risk jobs has never been greater. Technology and ESG risk hiring is the busiest, and we envision a rise in risk headcount over the next six months, particularly as market and credit risk skills continue to be in high demand.
There has also been an increase in quantitative risk and risk analytics talent in hedge funds and also cryptocurrency. There is the question of where all this talent will come from, as the current supply of risk professionals in Singapore will not be enough.
Professionals from Malaysia and Hong Kong could fill hard-to-find roles as travel restrictions finally ease, and although it has been increasingly difficult to attain work permits, companies are still very willing to offer employment passes. We have interestingly also seen talent coming home, helping several returning Singaporeans from Hong Kong, Europe, and the US to secure roles in Singapore.
